The mobile library of women's local knowledge focuses on the local knowledge of the citizens of Logroño and promotes a process of learning, exchange and empowerment. Based on site-specific explorations of habits, rituals and rules, the mobile library traveled during the International Festival of Architecture and Design Concentrico 09 through the neighborhoods Madre de Dios and San José in Logroño and activated various open spaces in the city through different workshop formats. The aim was to bring together, network and disseminate the diverse existing knowledge of women.
To do this, we converted a cargo bike into a flexible location for temporary activities - a parasol, a table and a small library transformed the bike into a mobile library. In a series of workshops, we looked at various topics related to the city from a female perspective. On the first day text fragments from the group of authors 8 hembras set the starting point for silent conversation on the topic of care, repair and heal. The next day we followed the sounds and smells of the neighborhoods Madre de Dios and San José in two urban walks, one by day, one by night. On the third day we gathered with interested women for a witch circle in the basement of the library. The workshop was led by Leticia Utermoehl from the Latin American women collective Janainas e.V.. In addition to the workshops, we cycled through the districts, took part in local festivals and held spontaneous picnics and discussion groups. Activities of the Rafael Azcona Library were relocated to public space. In a final workshop, the knowledge collected was transferred into a 25 meter long book roll in collaboration with local illustrators and displayed in the library. The mobile library, the converted cargo bike, now remains in the hands of the neighborhood and the local library for further activities.
